Are You Ready To Stop Feeling Mentally Drained?

Every day, you make thousands of decisions, from what to wear, what to eat, how to respond to emails, which tasks to tackle first. Over time, this constant decision making wears down your mental energy, leaving you feeling drained, overwhelmed, and even paralyzed when it comes to important choices. This phenomenon is called decision fatigue. Decision Fatigue can lead to poor choices, procrastination, and increased stress.

Here is the good news, you can reduce decision fatigue! By simplifying, prioritizing, and creating systems that reduce mental clutter, you can reclaim your energy and focus for what truly matters.

Use this checklist to streamline your decision making and free up valuable mental space.

Decision Fatigue Checklist

Prioritize Your Decisions:

  • Focus on the most important decisions early in the day.

Simplify and Plan Ahead:

  • Reduce the number of daily decisions by planning your week in advance.

    • Plan meals, outfits, and work tasks for the week on a designated day (e.g., Sunday).

    • Use tools like success lists, calendars, or apps to stay organized.

Establish routines to minimize decision making.

Take Breaks

  • Recognize when you are reaching decision making limits.

    • Incorporate short breaks into your daily routine (e.g., stretching, walking, deep breathing).

    • Take an extended lunch break in the middle of the day.

    • Utilize productivity techniques like Pomodoro or Flowtime for built in breaks.

Delegate and Automate Decisions:

  • Delegate tasks to others when possible.

    • Automate routine tasks (e.g., bill payments, supply orders, email reminders).

    • Establish routines or habits to reduce daily decision making (e.g., evening routine).

Practice Mindfulness and Self Care:

  • Stay present and focused on the task at hand to reduce mental clutter.

    • Complete one task at a time. Multitasking does not exist nor does it work.

    • Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine. (e.g., meditation, journaling, nature walks, these can be done during break times).

    • Prioritize self care: ensure sufficient sleep, daily movement, healthy eating, and hydration.

Know When to Say No:

  • Recognize your limits and avoid overcommitting.

    • Be selective about commitments to avoid unnecessary stress.

    • Learn to say NO.

    • Decline any request that will drain your cognitive resources, your  time, and is not aligned with your goals.
