Setting Time for Productivity

Working for yourself can be a great privilege, as it allows you to have control over your schedule and work environment.

However, this flexibility can also be a double-edged sword if you are not highly aware of your own tendencies. As someone who works for themselves, it can be easy to fall into the trap of being too flexible for others, sacrificing your time, and productivity in the process.

One of the biggest challenges of working for yourself is honoring your time and the tasks you wanted to do in that time. It is critical to set aside specific blocks of time for productive work and to stick to them. This will help you to stay focused, get your work done efficiently, and build your ideal future.

However, it is also important to recognize that sometimes, other people will create interruptions for you as they may need your help or want to schedule something with you. While it can feel important to be accommodating, it is crucial to set boundaries and make sure that you are not letting others steal all of your time.

Remember that your time is valuable and you need to protect it in order to maintain productivity. If someone came into your home and started stealing your belongings you would likely stop them, right? Then why would you allow others to steal your time?

When we drop everything and do what other people want from us we are creating their future instead of our own. If you want to build a future you want to partake in, you will need to take the time for productive work. A good start for prioritizing you, your work, and your future is to create non-negotiable 2-hour blocks weekly for productive work.

When you work for yourself one of the hardest things to do is prioritize the time for productive work.

Besides, you likely started working for yourself to have a flexible schedule. By scheduling and honoring two 2-hour non-negotiable productive work times weekly, you can be flexible and accommodating to others while still being productive and getting your work done.
